What motivates you to tackle the day?
I’m driven by the desire to learn, to create, and to help people.
When are you most productive?
Early mornings were my most productive time … until Jen and I had a baby.
Tell us about your family.
I live with my wife, Jen, our daughter, Savannah, and the lizards that have taken up residence on the back porch, all of which are named Jerome.
How many cities have you lived in?
Just three. Siler City, North Carolina; Lynchburg, Virginia; and Jacksonville, Florida.
Where have you found the best food?
The BBQ, sweet tea, and fried squash in North Carolina are the absolute best.
What’s your favorite thing about living in the Sunshine State?
Since I grew up in a town of about 5,000 in the rural South, I really love how much Jacksonville has going on: festivals, food trucks, eclectic restaurants, music, art walks, farmers’ markets, the beach, and rivers to kayak.
Name one of your “off beat” hobbies.
When living in Virginia, I starting pressing autumn leaves. However, “pressing” these leaves involved hammering to transfer the leaf pigments to watercolor paper. I sat on the curb in the parking lot after work hammering away. I got a lot of weird looks – probably deserved them.
What’s on your bucket list?
I’d love to publish at least one written and illustrated children’s book. I also want to visit more of Europe, including Italy, Greece and Switzerland.
What is the last book you read?
I just finished the audio book versions of Treasure Island and Anna Karenina. I’m currently reading the Bible and Brain Rules for Baby.
Where do you get your news?
A wide range of sources: Fox, Mashable, Relevant Mag, Christianity Today, The New Yorker, Washington Post are a few.
Thanks, Ryan!
