Meet graphic designer and Florida native Chris Wright.

Chris graduated from the University of North Florida and went on to work as a graphic designer for the Florida Times-Union where he developed campaigns and created an animation service from the ground up. On his off time, Chris enjoys playing guitar, hanging out with his American Bulldog, and spending time with his fiancé, Caitlyn.

What is your favorite medium to work with?
Pencil. As a graphic designer, most of my work is digital, but before it moves to the screen, it usually starts with pencil and paper. Before I studied design, my favorite form of art was cartooning. I have no problem admitting that Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon were my favorite channels, even throughout my high school years. Character design is still a love of mine today and now with design, I can animate those characters and bring them to life. But before I can make my characters walk and talk, I have to create them, and it always starts with a pencil.

What app can’t you live without?
Maps. I love my apps, but Maps has saved my life on more than one occasion. I’ve always found my way around by using landmarks, which doesn’t work when you’re in a new area. You don’t know fear until you’re in the middle of nowhere, trying to get home with 5% left on your phone, just praying Maps holds out so you’re not at the mercy of the guy at the corner store. I love my Maps app.

Favorite eats from your home state?
There is a place in Gainesville called Reggae Shack that I still miss to this day. When I lived in Gainesville, they were just a hole in the wall with no AC, but their food is so good, you would sweat through your meal just to experience it. Since then, they have expanded and bought themselves a nice AC unit, but I sort of miss the days where you could sit at your table and be wrapped up in the warm, spicy aromas pouring out of the kitchen.

Name one of your “weird” hobbies or habits.
I’m typically a quiet guy, but deep down, I’m a metal head! I love going to concerts and jumping in the mosh pit. Music has always been a big part of my life. In addition to being a fan, I’m also a musician myself. I do like to listen and play other genres of music as well, but rock is the most fun.

How many cities have you lived in?
It has to be at least 10 by now. I was born in Fort Worth, Texas. My dad was a carpenter and traveled from job to job, taking us along for the ride. My parents say I was the baby with the most frequent flyer miles in the world. We traveled north through New York, then down to Florida where we moved around until finally settling down in my hometown Ocala, Florida. I moved to Gainesville for college (Santa Fe) then transferred to UNF here in Jacksonville.

Members of your family?
My fiancé Caitlyn (set to be hitched in January!) and my loveable American Bulldog, Jackson.

Thanks, Chris!
